Dick

Paul (Richard) Johnson

Paul was born right near Coronation Street in Staffordshire UK, though to his eternal regret he never bedded Dierdre Langton (one of the only males in the post code that didn’t). His childhood was shared between shark fin soup in Singapore and Patchouli and pottery in Nelson – in fact he still has a world class bent fork collection. In 1998 he left the tender shores of Nelson to begin his honours degree in design at Massey, swapping cinnamon chai for long blacks.

Leaving Massey in 2002 he was recruited by Olivia (Jane) Swinn to join her team, signing on the dotted line for a casual 14 years. In that time Paul built brands and identities for many of New Zealand’s public and cultural organisations. From big corporates like NZ Post and Spark to cultural landmarks like WW100 as well as true blue Kiwi Institutions like the RSA.

In 2014, sensing change in the air for the industry, Paul rejoined forces with Olivia to create the small and perfectly formed powerhouse that is Dick&Jane.
